Graduating from high school means you’re getting ready to start a brand new season in your life! Congratulations! Since you’re obviously looking for someone to take your senior pictures in Olive Branch, let me take some time to describe how like to photograph my seniors.

First and foremost, I like to try to learn as much about you as I can. When you’re comfortable around me, it’s a lot easier to be photogenic – and yourself. At your age, it may seem like appearance and style matter the most, but capturing your personality is so much more important – and that’s what I’d like my senior portraits to bring to Desoto County.

So, if you’re going to hire me, be prepared to talk about college, your studies, travel plans or career-minded goals. Share your hobbies, passions, lifestyle, memories and everything in between. The last thing we’ll want to do is schedule a basic point-and-shoot photo session that doesn’t showcase your accomplishments and communicate your future aspirations.

Sometimes, putting together a Pinterest board or shot list helps us organize ideas and finalize the direction of the session. Once we finalize the direction of the shoot, we can begin to review some locations that best encompass the setting you’re looking for. I always encourage the parents (and even the family) to be highly involved in the process.

How do you approach pictures with teens?

Since my husband and I have two teenage daughters of our own, it comes pretty natural to me. I think if you really want to take some good senior pictures, you have to understand the student as much as you can. So I just try to ask questions and get them comfortable with me before I put them in front of a camera. Believe it or not, no matter how confident a senior is, staring at a lens can be intimidating. The better our plan, the easier the session.

Do you let graduates change the wardrobe?

Since my pricing is based on time, this is completely up to you. As long as were appropriate with the way we go about changing and another adult is present, it shouldn’t be a problem. Again, the better we’re able to plan, the more seamless the shoot will be. So try to communicate intentions like these beforehand so we can avoid any setbacks.

Can Seniors Buy More Pictures If they like them?

Yes, you can make the request straight from your computer or smart phone. All of my clients have access to an online portal where they can view and manage their final edits. Even if you purchase a custom package, we’re still able to break down the price per senior portrait. Your logins for your graduation gallery are valid for 90 days after the photos are ready to be reviewed.

Do You have any tips for graduation portraits?

I think I might be a little old school with my answer. But I think all kids should try to focus on who they are and not mirror a trend, do what their friends do or idolize a celebrity. So I just try to encourage kids to find a passion. Something that makes them tick or feel accomplished or worthy and hold onto it. Sometimes the most simple of settings and expressions can create the most powerful senior portraits in Olive Branch, MS.

Any Suggestions on where to shoot senior photos?

Honestly, I haven’t explored enough yet to have some places memorized. But there are a few spots next to rushing water that I think I’ll end up liking. Anywhere we can find a nice breeze and some clean light should do. Arizona never offered much greenery so you can pretty much stop on the side of the road here and find a fence. One place I’m really looking forward to capturing senior photos is our property in Mineral Wells. There are some cool little areas throughout that are going to work really well for close ups and wider angles. So feel free to ask about this!
